Main Translation

Translation Caius Seccius Lesbius, freedman of Caius, lies here at the age of twenty.

When youth was for the first time scattering fresh flowers all over me, oh!, I, wretched, did not get to taste the fruit of this age. At twice the age of twenty, unjust death drew near me and Seccius himself mourns this terrible loss. Gods, I pray that he may receive better compensation for my loss, and that he may have many more of his own. He dedicated this grave and epitaph in my honour, and determined for tears to be shed in his own name.

For the well deserving.

Further Information

Comment

Dating proposed by Boppert (CSIR). Selzer proposes a dating to the broad 1st century AD. López Sánchez also proposes a dating to the broad 1st century AD, based on the use of the Zahlbach cemetery until at least 90 AD, the pre-Claudian type of support and names.
