Main Translation

Translation […] When his life had completed twenty four years, then hostile death seized him from his Fate. As his mother learnt of this, she mourned him, his comrades wept, his father would have wept, he died before him. His own family, abandoned in a far off land, would have thoroughly prepared the procession of my funeral. It was Proculus who put up this inscription and, grieving, inscribed the name of his comrade: this is the honour of piety. May you be lucky, may you fare well and may your ancestry watch over you, and may you say to Clarus: “may the earth be light for you”.
Lucius Valerius Proculus, commanipularis, took care of this from his own money.
