Main Translation

Translation An altar to the Manes and to the innocence of Hipponicus, slave of Dignilla, wife of Iunius Pastor, legionary legate of the Legio XXII Primigenia Pia Fidelis. Hedyepes and Genesia, his parents, put this up.

As soon as he grew up, strong, with a beautiful face (withholding the countenance and appearance of Cupid, such that I fear not calling him an Apollo), the Fates envied him, as he reached three times a hundred and three times ten days, for the celebration of his birthday and, while he was already so dear among his friends, he ceased to be loved for the grudge of the gods.
