Object

Provenance and Location

Find Place Chester
Find Context Found during the excavation on the site of the Old Market Hall (SJ 403 663). This is on the west side of Northgate Street, where another Greek dedication by a doctor had already been found (RIB 461). Early in the fourth century the altar, already damaged, was placed against the north wall of the south range of a large courtyard building immediately north of the headquarters building (principia), thought to be the legate’s house (praetorium).
