Comment

Texts 1 and 2 are impressed and provide the names of the wine merchants involved. The text on the stave, which appears to be a later addition, likely dates from a time when the barrel had already arrived at Castra Regina, and soldiers stationed along the Raetian limes could enjoy its contents. The barrel itself is presented as a first-person speaker, addressing its audience with the cheerful news that there was still plenty of wine remaining (Cenati, Soldiers in incognito, in: Musa Provinciarum, forthcoming).
