Main Translation

Translation Narcissus, slave bailiff of Titus Titucius Florianus and of Teia Galla, daughter of Lucius, lived for twenty-five years.

The freedom due to me and denied by the law in my young age, has been granted for ever by premature death.

Comment

Narcissus was denied freedom due to his young age, since a provision of the Lex Aelia Sentia of 4 A.D. allowed only slaves older than thirty to be manumitted. The Lex thus provides a terminus post quem for the inscription.
