Main Translation

Translation To the Manes of Terentia Asiatica, daughter of Publius.
Publius Terentius Quietus made this for his adopted daughter.

Here lies the lifeless body of my adopted daughter, who the Fates thrusted, innocent, into a harsh death, for she had not yet reached her tenth year of age. I will always seek you, my dear daughter Asiatica, and constantly imagine your face, grieving; and it will be a relief to see you there and then when, having fulfilled my lifetime, I will join my shadow with yours.

Further Information

Comment

Dating broadly ascribed to the imperial age (according to formulae) by P. Colafrancesco and M. Massaro 1986, though it remains uncertain. G. Ottavianelli proposes a shorter range to the 2nd century AD (according to formulae and names) in EDR159459.
