Main Translation

Translation Lucius Sentius Lucrio, freedman of Lucius' wife, made this to himself, to his wife Pontia Procula, daughter of Lucius, and to Lucius Sentius Pietas, son of Lucius, who lived seventeen years, nine months and seven days; and to Sperata, freedwoman and wet nurse of his son, who is still alive.

Whoever you are who read this, I beg you, read through the poem in this epitaph, my friend: may you live through the many joys of life. I, Sentius, bearing the cognomen of Pietas, lie here; I was snatched away from my father in my blossoming years. I was educated in the honourable pursuit of the liberal arts, and I was held in high regard among my contemporaries. So that I would not count eighteen years of age, Luna stole three of her months away from me.

Fourteen feet in width, twelve feet in depth.
Citation Fabio Spalla
