To the spirits of the departed of Publius Aelius Ulpius, veteran and ex decurion. He was pleased to dedicate this place to a prolonged effort, this resting place, where he would finally bury his tired limbs, Ulpius, after completing long years of service. He himself took care of his own epitaph, he himself, as responsible for his grave, arranged a dwelling for his limbs (body?) and his destiny.
[To the spirits of the departed.] [The monument] of Publius Aelius Ulpius, veteran from the rank of a decurion. It was agreed to consecrate this eternal resting place, this respite from long labour, as where he shall bury his tired limbs at last. Ulpius, tired from years of service of drawn out duty, himself took care of his inscription, he himself, the arbiter of the tomb, prepared the guest-room for his limbs and Fate.
