Φιλίστα Θράσιππος

Τιμάρχωι θύγατρα Καλαινώ, τύμβε, φιλίσταν κεύθεις καὶ θείας μεστοτάταν ἀρετᾶς. ἀλλὰ κακὰ νοῦσος ζωὰν ἐκάλυψε γυναικὸς ἐσθλᾶς πρὶν στυγεροῦ γήραος ἀντιτυχεῖν. εἰ δ’ ἀγαθαῖς τιμά τις ὑπὸ χθονός, ἅδε τέτευχεν πρώτας εὐκόλπωι καὶ παρὰ Περσεφόναι. ἅδε σε ποιητάν τε καὶ ἰητῆρα, Θράσιππε, οὐθενὸς Ἑλλάνων δεύτερον αἶα φέρει.

Cést Philista la joille fille de Trimarchos, que, ô tombe, tu caches, elle qui était pleine d'une divine vertu. Mais une mauvaise maladie a enveloppé la vie de cette femme noble avant quelle n'obtienne à la place l'odieuse vieilesse. S'il existe quelque prix sous la terre pour les honnêtes femmes, celleci a remporté le premier aussi auprès de Perséphone qui étreint chaleeureusement. Cette terre te porte, toi poète et médicin, ô Thrasippos, toi qui n'étais inférieur à aucun Grec.

O tomb, thou hidest Kalaino, beloved daughter of Timarchos, a daughter filled full of divine excellence. Daneful disease blotted out the life of a splendid woman before she encountered repulsive old age. If there is any honor beneath the earth for good women, she has now attained first honor in the presence of fair-bosomed Persephone. This land supports thee, Thrasippus, who art poet and physician second to none of the Greeks.
