                <p>To the Manes. Caius Aufidius Fidelis made this for his most deserving freedwoman and wife Aufidia Agathe.

If I could offer you gifts equal to your merits, as much praise as you are due, this epitaph should be embellished with gold and the letters of your name also adorned with gold, for you were so honest and beloved among the living. I pray you are among those who rest in peace for their guiltless life, and that the earth may be light upon you.</p>

                <p>Könnt&#39; ich für dein Verdienst den Entgelt, den rechten, dir geben,
so wie es dir gar wohl als Lobspruch könnte gebühren,
müßte die Grabschrift hier in Gold und die Lettern des Namens
auch in Gold hier stehn bei doch so einfachem Leben,
die den Himmlischen du ja stets willkommen gewesen.</p>

                <p>Si pudiera ofrecerte unos dones acordes a tus merecimientos, tantos cuantas alabanzas se te deben en premio, este epitafio debería leerse en oro y las letras de tu nombre, embellecidas también con oro, porque fuiste tan amable y de una vida tan sencilla aquí en la tierra. Ruego para que estés entre las que nada temen -pues han tenido una vida intachable- y te deseo además que te sea ligera la tierra.</p>
