                <p>To the Manes of Publius Aufidius Epictetus, who lived seventy-seven years and fifteen days.
To the Manse of Aufidius.

He now lies here, who once lived excellently by virtue and righteousness, no one ever was or lived as happy as him among  the living, in simplicity, kind-hearted, and serene. He was never sad, he happily rejoiced everywhere he went and did not wish to die as old people do. He did not fear death and did not think that he could die. His wife buried him and cried out her grief, deprived of her dear husband.</p>

                <p>Aquí está ya enterrado ahora aquel que fue tan querido en todas las tierras por su fama y por su vida. Fue un hombre feliz entre los vivos y más feliz que él ni hubo ni vivió otro, sencillo, bueno, dichoso. Nunca estaba malhumorado, contento disfrutaba dondequiera que estuviese y no deseaba morir como sucede a los ancianos: ni tuvo miedo a la muerte ni pensaba que él podría morir. Su esposa lo enterró y lloró sus amargas desdichas, pues se había visto privada de su querido marido.</p>
