Column 1: Cocceius Coeranus to his wife Cocceia Thallusa, sixteen years old. Column 2: To Cocceia Blanda, daughter of Lucius. You who read this epitaph, why do you try to know my name, who I was, whose wife or freedwoman I have been? For if you knew the years I carried on my shoulders, you would surely feel pity. Therefore, to avoid such pain, I beg you listen to this: everything dies out with life and becomes worthless. Since we generally believe, traveller, that tokens of life are left in an epitaph, I pray, may it not fall heavy on you to know in a few words the uncertain fate I suffered and how dreadful is the desire that whoever is born may live on beyond their time. When I was thirteen, I took my husband's name and opened my bosom. But to break my promises, destiny snatched me away. In that short time I lived happy under good auspices, with the help of Coeranus and Blanda, before fierce death crawling in the shadows ruined everything. I lived with my husband until the start of our third year together, however not in full, and then only another five months. Hence, you shall know that I was then sixteen, when destiny ended my life. My husband prepared this resting place, waiting for the day when he shall happily join me for eternity.

Puesto que creemos, viajero, que todo el mundo está decidido a dejar pruebas escritas de la vida en los epitafios, te lo ruego, no te resulte molesto conocer, en breves palabras, el dudoso azar que he soportado y cuán fatal ha sido el deseo de que alguien al nacer avance más allá io de su hora prescrita. A mi décimotercer año bien entrado, tomé el nombre de mi esposo y le abrí mi regazo. Pero el destino me llevó consigo truncando mis promesas. Fui feliz, pues, durante el poco tiempo que duró mi matrimonio, gracias a la ayuda de Cerano y Blanda, antes de que la cruel muerte, merodeando entre la oscuridad, acabara con todo.
